Caipirinha Recipe

Caipirinha Recipe

A classic Brazilian cocktail made with Cachaça, lime, and sugar. The Caipirinha is known for its bold citrus flavor, slight sweetness, and the distinctive earthy undertone from sugarcane-based Cachaça. It’s refreshing, easy to make, and perfect for summer gatherings or casual evenings.

  • Total Time: 10 minutes
  • Yield: 1 serving 1x

Ingredients

Scale

Classic Caipirinha (1 serving):

  • 1 lime (cut into 8 wedges)
  • 2 teaspoons granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 2 ounces (60 ml) Cachaça
  • Ice cubes (optional)

Optional Fruit Variations (for 1 drink):

  • 34 strawberries, hulled and chopped (Strawberry Caipirinha)
  • ½ ripe mango, peeled and diced (Mango Caipirinha)
  • 45 chunks fresh pineapple (Pineapple Caipirinha)

Mocktail Version:

  • 1 lime (cut into 8 wedges)
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • Sparkling water or soda to top

Instructions

1. Prepare the Ingredients:

  • Wash the lime and cut it into 8 wedges.
  • Place lime wedges in a sturdy glass.

2. Muddle:

  • Add sugar to the glass with lime wedges.
  • Gently muddle the lime and sugar to release juice and essential oils—avoid pressing too hard to prevent bitterness.

3. Add Cachaça:

  • Pour 2 ounces (60 ml) of Cachaça into the glass.

4. Stir and Serve:

  • Stir the mixture well to dissolve the sugar.
  • Add ice cubes if desired.
  • Garnish with a lime wheel or mint sprig for extra flair.

For Fruit Variations:

  • Muddle fruit with lime and sugar before adding Cachaça.
  • Follow the same steps as above.

For Mocktail:

  • Muddle lime and sugar.
  • Top with sparkling water or soda instead of Cachaça.

Notes

  • Use fresh limes for the best flavor.
  • Avoid over-muddling to prevent bitterness from the lime peel.
  • Adjust sugar to taste; brown sugar can offer a deeper flavor.
  • Use high-quality Cachaça for a smoother, more authentic drink.
  • Best served fresh, but lime-sugar mix can be prepped ahead of time.
